A genuine piece of London history

Meet RML 2690: 37 years on London's streets

Before she was a bar, Big Red carried Londoners for nearly four decades. She is RML 2690, registration SMK 690F: an AEC Routemaster Lengthened, the stretched version of London's most famous bus, with an extra half-bay that took her from 64 seats to 72.

She spent her final years on route 6, running from Willesden bus garage through Queens Park, Warwick Avenue, Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square, right through the heart of the West End.

Early yearsStarts work on route 207a from Hanwell garage in west London.
Route 6Moves to Willesden garage, carrying passengers between Willesden and the West End.
March 2004Route 6 switches to modern one-person buses and Big Red retires from service.
TodayReborn as the Big Red Bus Bar, serving drinks at events across mainland UK.
